Brăila is a city in southeastern Romania, on the left bank of the Danube, and the county seat of Brăila County. It is an important Danube port and a commercial and transport center for the surrounding agricultural area. Its historic center preserves traces of 19th-century urban development. Because of its position near the Danube, the city has long played a significant role in river transport and trade.
