West Bačka District
The West Bačka District is located in northern Serbia, in the western part of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina. Its administrative center is Sombor. The district covers an area of 2,403 km², and according to the 2022 census, it had a population of 154,491 inhabitants.
The region is multiethnic. According to the 2002 census, 63% of the population identified as Serbian, 10% as Hungarian, and 6% as Croatian. By 2011, the proportion of Hungarians had decreased to approximately 7–8%.
The district has significant agricultural and industrial traditions. Its main sectors include:
- Agriculture (grain and vegetable production)
- Food processing (e.g., tomato processing, sugar production)
- Textile industry
- Chemical industry
Major transportation corridors cross the district, including the E75 motorway and the Belgrade–Zagreb railway line. An international river port operates along the Danube near Bezdan.
