Velyki Heivtsi
Velyki Heivtsi is a village in western Ukraine, in Zakarpattia Oblast, within Uzhhorod Raion. It lies southeast of Uzhhorod, near the border zone with Slovakia and Hungary. The settlement belonged historically to Ung County and remains part of the lowland belt of borderland villages in the region. Its population is mixed, reflecting the wider ethnic diversity of Zakarpattia, where Ukrainians, Hungarians, and other communities live in proximity. The village is known in Hungarian as Nagygéjóc and in Ukrainian as Velyki Heivtsi. The surrounding area is predominantly agricultural, and the built environment is mostly rural and residential. The village is connected to neighboring settlements and to the district center by the local road network of Uzhhorod Raion. As a settlement of the Zakarpattia lowlands, its landscape differs from the mountainous parts of the oblast. Local community life is shaped by municipal, educational, and religious institutions. The place name is known in multiple languages, reflecting the multilingual character of the region. Velyki Heivtsi continues to exist as an inhabited rural locality in the current administrative system of Ukraine.
