Its population lives mainly in a rural setting while remaining within easy reach of the services of the nearby city. Like many settlements in Zakarpattia, its history reflects Hungarian, Ruthenian, Ukrainian, and other Central European influences. The village has basic local institutions and infrastructure serving residents. Administratively, it belongs today to the Uzhhorod area of Ukraine. In Hungarian historical usage, the settlement is known as Őrdarma. Because of its location, it is often regarded as one of the smaller settlements in the wider Uzhhorod agglomeration.
