Simeria

Simeria is a town in Hunedoara County, situated in the Mureș valley. It is well known in Romania as an important railway junction. Because of its location, it serves as a connector between the Mureș corridor, Deva, and other parts of the county. Simeria is a relatively small town, but its transport importance is notable at a wider scale. Near the town lies the Simeria dendrological park, one of the area’s best known botanical sites. The present character of the settlement is strongly shaped by railway infrastructure and transport functions. The proximity of the Mureș River is a fundamental element of the local landscape. The town is one of the smaller urban settlements in the central part of the county. Administratively, it includes several surrounding localities. Today Simeria mainly has transport, service, and local administrative roles.
