Palics - Palić - Палић

Palic (Serbian: Palić / Палић) is a settlement in Serbia, located within Vojvodina Autonomous Province, as part of the Subotica Municipality in the North Bačka District. It is situated just a few kilometers from the Hungarian border, approximately 8 km east of Subotica. The area around Palic has been inhabited since ancient times. The first written records date back to the 15th century, when the land around the lake was used for agriculture. During the Ottoman rule, the area became depopulated, but was resettled in the 18th century. By the late 19th century, Palic had become a famous resort and spa town. During the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, the Palic Lake gained popularity due to its mineral-rich water and medicinal mud, attracting members of the aristocracy and bourgeoisie. In 1897, a spa complex was developed, along with elegant hotels and villas. Following the Treaty of Trianon in 1920, Palic became part of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes (later Yugoslavia), and subsequently, Serbia.
