Geoagiu

Geoagiu is a town in Hunedoara County, situated in a hilly area not far from the Mureș valley. It is best known for the spa settlement of Geoagiu-Băi, which belongs administratively to the town. Thermal springs have long shaped the importance of the place. The history of Geoagiu reaches back to antiquity, and Roman-era remains are known in the area. The town and its spa are one of the county’s smaller centers with a distinct tourism role. Geoagiu is located relatively close to the main transport corridor along the Mureș. Its landscape includes hills, vineyard and agricultural areas, and spa-related features. Several villages belong to the town administratively. Today its functions include local administration, basic services, and health tourism. The character of the settlement is defined both by its historical past and by its connection to the spa.
