Aninoasa

Aninoasa is a town in Hunedoara County, Romania, in the Jiu Valley. It forms part of the chain of settlements in the Valea Jiului area and lies near Petroșani. The town’s development was closely tied to coal mining in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Its current administrative status is that of a town. The wider area has a strongly industrial past and has undergone economic change after the decline of mining. Aninoasa is set in a mountainous environment near the Southern Carpathians. The town is linked to the main transport corridor that connects the settlements of the Jiu Valley. Its residential areas and public buildings still reflect the structure of a former mining community. The surrounding landscape also offers access to outdoor and hiking areas. Aninoasa is one of the smaller urban centers in the southern part of Hunedoara County. Its present-day character combines industrial heritage with a mountain setting. Today it remains part of the everyday regional network of the Jiu Valley.
